Bishop Bytheway

John recently got called to serve as the Bishop of our ward. It was a bit unexpected to say the least, but he and his amazing counselors, Bob Woods and Chris VanLeeuwen, have such great plans for our ward, and we are all fired up!

Last Sunday they introduced our ward's "theme." It's "Onward and Upward Together." Each member of the bishopric spoke about one part of the theme. Onward means working forward, planning, and setting goals (like Enduring to the end, only becoming better in the process!). Upward means exactly that. It means coming up to higher ground and doing better each day than we did the day before. It means coming to the temple. Together implies becoming "one" and more of a "Zion"-feeling ward. This includes fellowshipping and supporting one another in all of our callings. I'm so excited for the ideas and for the fire that they have lit underneath all of us to try harder and commit more. How fun!

The day John was set apart, all of our family was there to support him. My older sister recently sent me a beautiful thought when I asked if she could babysit for me. She said that even though they aren't in our ward, they also raised their hand to sustain John, and to her, that meant serving and helping us with a smile when we need her help to babysit for Church-related activities where we can't take our children. We are so blessed to have such an amazing family!!!

We're excited for what this assignment will bring to our family, and for the opportunities for growth that this will give all of us!

Here's a picture of the cake we had made for John for dinner that night.

It says "Farewell, and Good Luck"

Jeff and Natalie made John a little gift bag with things to help him stay awake on the stand! It was the "anti-sleeping-on-the-stand Pack." It had red-hots, sour patch kids, everlasting gobstoppers, and other "stay awake" candies! Love you guys!

We've already felt such an outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and neighbors, and we feel so blessed and excited. Thank you to all of our loved ones!
